The focus of Fernie Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Club is to build a foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment for skiing and pursuit of the outdoors in a fun and safe environment. Our programs are centered on athletes ages 6 to 17 who want to improve their Slopestyle, Mogul, Park, Pipe and Big Mountain skiing in a positive, safe, and supervised environment.
Please note that registration for all Winter 2022/23 Programs will open Sept 1 2022. If interested, please reach out to our Program Director – Chris Ebbern at email@example.com, 250 946 5434.
We will be offering more Try Freestyle days throughout the 22/23 Season, stay tuned for details!
Our home mountain is Fernie Alpine Resort and our coaches focus on developing athletes’ skills to meet their goals of fun recreational skiing and competing at the Club and Provincial levels.
Fernie Freestyle offers programs for recreational freestylers and competitive skiers. Members of our Club compete in events in BC and Alberta that are organized by BC Freestyle and IFSA (International Freeskiers & Snowboarders Association). Our goal is to have an 8:1 athlete to coach ratio. Groups are divided based on ability and age.
We offer programs throughout the year: skiing at Fernie Alpine Resort, mid-week training at WinSport in Calgary, trampoline training in Fernie & Calgary, Air Bag & Water Ramping in BC and Alberta and summer/fall camps at Whistler Glacier and Maximise Quebec.
Our competitive athletes have been selected to Canadian Junior National Freestyle Championships, BC/Alberta Freestyle Championships, Provincial & National Freestyle Ski Teams.
Our mission is to develop athletes in a safe, fun, and ethical manner in all disciplines of Freestyle Skiing with qualified Freestyle Canada Coaches.
All Fernie Freestyle Skier athletes require a Freestyle Canada/Freestyle BC Membership in addition to Fernie Freestyle registration. All Fernie Freestyle Snowboard athletes require a Canada Snowboard/BC Snowboard Membership in addition to Fernie Freestyle Registration.
MOGUL COURSE ON BEAR
Athletes will learn how to conquer the bumps so they can ski anywhere on the mountain. Skiers will learn to absorb, control speed and turn with confidence. Our mogul course is located along the Bear Run at FAR and includes 2 air tables. Bumps and jumps at its finest!
AIR SITE ON FALLING STAR & RCR RAIL PARK
Slope is all about style. Fernie Freestyle has a private Air Site located on upper Falling Star. It’s designed with progression in mind, featuring small jumps, rails, boxes and to more advanced burly jumps. Athletes also spend time in the FAR Rail Park.
NATURAL TERRAIN AT FAR
Our Big Mountain component focuses on learning new tricks to take to the mountains. We focus on skiing natural features and learning to read the terrain. And of course on powder days, that’s where our athletes will be – out skiing.
Athletes may attend IFSA events, and it will be our continued mission to obtain the appropriate IFSA insurance in order to support those athletes in Big Mountain contests. BUT at this time we have not obtained the appropriate insurance yet and we cannot guarantee coach support for the events as of yet.
SLOPE, PARK & FREERIDE
New for the 21/22 season is our Freestyle Snowboarding Program! We are excited to add a Snowboarding Program as part of BC Snowboard and certified CSPC coaches. Athletes will take part in Slopestyle & Freeride activities, along with access to fitness and trampoline training.
